Live CD of the Month - "The Monterey Quartet"

Live CD of the Month
The Monterey Quartet: "Live at the 2007 Monterey Jazz Festival" (MJF/Concord) 2009

"The Monterey Quartet" is a historic summit of four of today's top jazzmen together on one project for the very first time!
Their live performance on September 22, 2007 at the Monterey Jazz Festival, in a concert produced by Tim Jackson, was mesmerizing and the talk of the festival; now it is available on CD.
Highlights: "Minotaur," "Otra Mirada," "Step To It," "Veil of Tears" and "Ask Me Why."
The booklet includes excellent liner notes by The Seattle Times jazz columnist Paul de Barros, also a regular contributor to DownBeat and the hero who is writing the biography of pianist Marian McPartland for St. Martin's Press.
Dave Holland: The English bassist who came to prominence as a member of Miles Davis' group during the revolutionary "Bitches Brews" years, and now is also recognized as a great composer and band leader, often topping the DownBeat Polls.
Gonzalo Rubalcaba: One of the most important figures to emerge from modern afro-cuban jazz, with whom I had the honor to work in some recording sessions. An extraordinarily versatile pianist able to blend Cuban and American jazz traditions into a fresh, modern whole.
Chris Potter: One of today's most sophisticated and respected tenor saxophone stylists.
Eric Holland: A drummer extraordinaire who has become a first-call player; his collaborations represent a virtual who's who of modern jazz.
A CD destined to make our "best of 2009" list.
