David Matthews: "Matthews' Market" (CTI/King) 1977
Back in the late 70s, King Records, CTI's distributor in Japan, prepared compilations focusing on the work of the three arrangers that most often contributed to the label: Bob James, Don Sebesky and David Matthews.
This 2-LP set, like happened on Bob's "Four Faces" and Don's "Sebesky Fantasy," included not only Matthews' tracks as a leader as well as many tunes he scored for such CTI stars as Esther Phillips, Hank Crawford, Patti Austin, George Benson, Joe Farrell, Idris Muhammad, Ron Carter, Jeremy Steig and Urbie Green (the delightful "Mertensia," written by David for Urbie's "The Fox" album)
