After the great 2-DVD set "Rory Gallagher Live at Montreux" (with five performances from 1975 to 1994 at the famous Swiss Festival), the guys at ST2 give us this 3-DVD deluxe digipack set, "Shadow Play," which includes five full lenght concerts spanning 1976 to 1990.
Perhaps one of the most treasured blues guitarists over the past 30 years, Irish rocker Rory Gallagher (1948-1995) made a number of appearances on Germany's famed Rockpalast show between 1976 and 1990. For the first time ever, all these performances are collected in 1 complete package with 9 hours (!!!)of Rory at his finest. Included are WDR Studio L (1976), Grugahalle Essen (1977), Wiesbaden (1979), Jam Session Wiesbaden (1979), Loreley Jam (1982), Loreley (1982), and Cologne (1990). Jack Bruce appears as guest artist.
Tracks include "Pistol Slapper Blues," "Nothing But The Devil," "Calling Card," "Country Mile", "Jackknife Beat," "Out On The Western Plain," "Bullfrog Blues," "What In The World," "Brute Force And Ignorance," "Moonchild" and many more.
A fear of flying, coupled with a growing dependency problem, began to hamper the guitarist's career and, in June 1995, Rory Gallagher succumbed to complications following a liver transplant. Donal Gallagher, always a tenacious defender of his older brother's music, in the late 1990's oversaw the remastering and reissuing of Rory's entire catalog. He authorized an exhaustive biography of Rory by French author Jean-Noel Coghe, and now contributes pics, memorabilia and liner notes to this "Shadow Play" DVD.
