Barrosinho (José Carlos Barroso)
born 1943, Campos dos Goytacazes, RJ, Brazil;
died March 5, 2009, Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil)
Besides the five albums he released as a leader ("Maracatamba," "O Sopro do Espírito," "Live in Montreux," "Banho de Sopa" and "Praça dos Músicos"), trumpet player Barrosinho was a founding member of the famous groups Banda Black Rio (led by the late sax player Oberdan Magalhães) and Abolição (led by keyboardist Dom Salvador).
Some years ago, in the early 2000s, I was fortunate to attend a live performance by Barrosinho at Mika's Bar, backed by Ana Azevedo (keyboards), Carlos Pontual (bass) and Cacá Colon (drums). Rest in Peace.
