2009 marks an important milestone in the history of Flushing Council on Culture & the Arts (FCCA) - it's their 30th anniversary as a multi-disciplinary arts organization as well as the 10th anniversary of the renovation of the theatre in the beautiful building we call home - Flushing Town Hall.
Flushing Town Hall's 2009 Winter/Spring season has something for everyone:
Lunar New Year Festival including Happy Puppetry Company from Taiwan, Susie Ibarra with Korean Traditional Music and Dance, Classical performance by Bright Sheng & Ne(x)tworks Ensemble, Lunar New Year Dance Sampler, and Tea for Two.
Headliner Jazz with the Queens Jazz Orchestra, directed by NEA Jazz Master Jimmy Heath and world premiere of Wycliff Gordon's FCCA commissioned suite "Cyberswing - Jazz in the Digital Age."
Intimate Jazz Series featuring Gabriel Alegria Afro-Peruvian Sextet, The Ayako Shirasaki Trio, The Jazz Men From Texas, Pheeroan akLaff with Taiko Masala, Giacomo Gates, and Rosemary Loar.
Classical Music Series featuring Bright Sheng & Ne(x)tworks Ensemble co-presented by Yangtze Repertory Theater of America and the Ying Quartet in collaboration with Carnegie Hall Neighborhood Concert Series.
Kids & Families programs featuring Happy Puppetry Company's Wu-Song, The Tiger Fighter; The Cashore Marionettes' Simple Gifts; Theatre de l'Oeil's The Star Keeper; and WBGO Jazz for Kids.
Visual Arts programs including Lunar New Year Exhibitions with Chinese Puppetry and Little Windows into China; Change - Long Island City Artists exhibition; Student Art Exhibition with JHS 231 and related events including Salon Sunday & Studio Visits.
