Single of the Day
Maria Toledo: "Manhã de Carnaval/Kaluê" (United Artists UA 50171)
The only single from Maria Helena Toledo's debut solo album for the United Artists label, "Maria Toledo Sings The Best of Luiz Bonfá", recorded in New York in 1967.
Despite the album title, it also included songs by other composers such as Cartola, Geraldo Vespar and Eumir Deodato.
"Manhã de Carnaval" (Bonfa's greatest hit ever, with lyrics by Antonio Maria, from the "Black Orpheus" soundtrack) appears mispelled as "Manhá de Carnival" on Side A.
"Kaluê", a batuque co-written by Geraldo Vespar & Maria Toledo, is on Side B.
Bonfa's wife and most constant lyricist at the time, Maria was backed on the album by Bonfá, Deodato (who also worked as arranger/conductor), Ron Carter, Bobby Rosengarden, Dom Um Romão, Urbie Green and Tony Motolla, among others. Henry Jerome was the producer.
