Previously hosted in London, Edinburgh and Sydney, ARP is coming to the U.S. for the first time. This year's theme "The Studio as Musical Instrument" features an illustrious roster of production talent and a wealth of prominent industry specialists and academics.
Simon Zagorski-Thomas, director of the Art of Record Production Conferences, states "Paper topics range from Brian Eno to Public Enemy, from Mitch Miller's 1950s production oddities to Radiohead's 'In Rainbows', and from the way studios are reacting to new business models to the way that 'old school' producers reacted to 'new school' technology. It's going to be a stunning weekend!"
William Moylan, Professor of Sound Recording Technology, UMass Lowell and host of ARP08, adds: "We are honored to be hosting the first North American platform for this important
exchange of ideas, experiences, knowledge and music between attendees from throughout the world. UMass Lowell's exceptional recording studios, control rooms and critical listening room will be featured and critical listening sessions will be held in our extremely accurate studio to provide the experience of high quality surround sound and hi-res listening in comparison to compressed MP3."
The Art of Record Production is a community of scholars, recording professionals, musicians and organizations that have an interest in how the recording process transforms music. The ARP community encompasses over 80 universities in 18 countries and is the only professional society organized with the unique motivation of understanding and advancing the art that comes from the production of music recordings.
