World Music Series: HAALE
Thursday, June 12, 2008, 8:00PM
Tickets: $20 / $16 Members / $10 Students
Haale evokes both the spiritual and traditional culture of her parent's homeland of Iran, and the energy of psychedelic rock and roll from the sounds of New York City, where she was born. Her music and her message are formed by the powerful combination of these influences, invoking both a swaying trance and a rock sensibility she describes as "Psychedelic Sufi Trance Rock."
Haale (as in halle-lujah or jalepeno), is a Bronx-born woman of Iranian descent whose name means the 'halo around the moon.' Her songs are trance-inducing, rhythmically propulsive, and lyrically engaging tapestries that draws on both Persian mystical and American psychedelic musical traditions.
This program is supported by New York State Music Fund, established by the New York State Attorney General at Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, and New York State Council on the Arts.
