Alan "Chip" White live, tonight, in NYC

Join us for a return engagement of drummer Alan “Chip” White's Ensemble, tonight, June 17, at "Jazz Tuesdays" in the Gillespie Auditorium at the New York Baha'i Center at 53 East 11th Street (between University Place & Broadway). Tonight’s show will feature Miss Gail Allen on vocals, Patience Higgins on reeds, Waldron Ricks on trumpet & Fluegelhorn, Sam Burtis on valve trombone, Cecilia Coleman on piano, and Don Moore on bass. There will be two shows at 8:00 and 9:30 p.m.

The Chip White Ensemble has performed at a variety of notable venues including the Blue Note, Seventh Avenue South, the West End Café, the Jazz Center of New York, Birdland, the Peekskill Jazz Festival, the Hartford Jazz Festival, and the East Coast Jazz Festival. Mr. White has performed and/or recorded with a wide variety of artists, including Carmen McRae, Jaki Byard, Candido, John Abercrombie, Frank Wess, Claudio Roditi, James Moody, Tom Waits, Jimmy McGriff, Mulgrew Miller, Gary Bartz, John Hicks, Houston Person and Etta Jones, and many more. He has toured extensively throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and Japan. In 1990, Mr. White co-wrote and produced the jazz musical Manhattan Moments with choreographer Kathy Sanson.

On Harlem Sunset (Postcards 1006) his first CD as leader and composer, as well as drummer, the visionary drummer/composer brought together an exciting and talented group of musicians - saxophonist Gary Bartz, trombonist Robin Eubanks, vibist Steve Nelson, trumpeter Claudio Roditi, and bassist Buster Williams, along with Mr. White, on energetic and enthusiastic renditions of original compositions as well as standards.

Chip’s second CD, Music and Lyrics, was released in 2005. He wrote, arranged and produced all the compositions on this recording, which features the wonderful voice of Gail Allen and the lush tenor saxophone sound of Houston Person, along with pianist Lafayette Harris and bassist George Kaye.

Chip's newest recording, “Double Dedication”, a two-CD set, has just been released. One disc features 13 original compositions honoring jazz masters, and the other contains his poems for each of these artists (from his book, I'm Just the Drummer in the Band) with the music sequenced underneath. The band includes Wycliffe Gordon, Randy Brecker, Steve Wilson, Kenny Barron, Ray Drummond, and vocalist Gail Allen. More information about all Chip's recordings, poetry, and upcoming gigs is available at http://www.chipwhitejazz.com/

Admission is 15.00, $10.00 for students.
Tickets will be sold at the door, or call 212-222-5159 for reservations and information.
