R.I.P.: Aldemaro Romero


The Venezuelan pianist Aldemaro Romero died in Caracas September 15th at the age of 79. Idolized by Brazilian jazz connoisseur Mauricio Figueiredo, Romero became known as a piano virtuoso in the 50s, playing the popular music of Venezuela, but also writing symphonic music. Later he played a fusion of bossa nova and Venezuelan joropo and recorded with jazz guitarist Charlie Byrd. He founded the Caracas Youth Choir and the Caracas Philharmonic Orchestra.
