R.I.P: David Solomon

The former editor of Esquire and Metronome Magazine David Solomon died (April 26th already) in New York at the age of 81. Solomon was a friend of Dizzy Gillespie and Nat Hentoff, also of the singer Earl Robinson and his son, the clarinetist Perry Robinson. In the 60s he became literary editor for Playboy Magazine, also edited several books about LSD, marijuana, cocaine and "drugs and sex" in general. He belonged to the counterculture of the West Village and was seen regularly at the jazz club Sweet Basil. Obituary: The Villager .
