Butch Warren is back on the block!

The bassist Butch Warren has gone through difficult times but now is back on the jazz scene, as Marc Fisher reports ( Washington Post Blog ). Last summer Fisher had visited him at the Springfield Hospital Center, Maryland's state mental institution, but now Warren plays again with the energy of a 25 year old and the experience of a musician who turns 68 in August and looks back on gigs and legendary recordings he did with Thelonious Monk, Dexter Gordon, Donald Byrd and Jackie McLean. He continues to survive on a Social Security check as well as with the help from jazz lovers.
